BMW España ha llegado a un acuerdo con Antonio García para disputar el próximo Campeonato de Europa de Turismos, dentro de la estructura de Ravaglia una estructura que afronta la próxima temporada con las máximas aspiraciones. A este acuerdo se ha llegado tras el fantástico test realizado en Italia en donde Antonio García estuvo en todo momento muy por encima del resto de pilotos convocados y, pese a su desconocimiento del vehículo, en los tiempos del Muller, piloto del team BMW Alemania, único equipo capaz de plantar cara a los Alfa oficiales.

" Estoy feliz por el acuerdo firmado porque me permite disponer del mejor material para optar a lo mejor en este campeonato. La composición del equipo ha sido uno de los factores mas importantes a la hora de tomar la decisión, pues estaré al lado de uno de los pilotos mas importantes del campeonato, del que puedo aprender y tener una referencia que me permitirá superarme en cada puesta en escena.

A falta de la publicación de calendarios no se si podré continuar corriendo en Monoplazas, pero el objetivo número uno por primera vez en mi vida no serán estos. Soy un piloto profesional y me debo a BMW y, al igual que años anteriores he alternado los monoplazas con los GT's para acelerar mi formación como piloto, este debe ser en todo caso al contrario.

En España, a través de los monoplazas, no había forma de encontrar un camino hacia la F1, en el 2.000 estuve en tratos con Prost pero no encontré quien aportara una cantidad a todas luces ridícula para los presupuestos que se manejan. En el 2.001 todavía aún hubiera encontrado equipo por menos dinero pero tampoco fue posible encontrar ese sponsor. A mis 22 años, todos ellos he debido luchar en el filo de la navaja y, a pesar de no haber tenido que aportar para correr en grandes equipos, me ha faltado la tranquilidad necesaria centrarme únicamente en las carreras.

El acuerdo con BMW es para mí la entrada definitiva al profesionalismo como piloto, y por la puerta grande. La F1 sigue estando ahí y no renuncio a ella, mi juventud juega a mi favor"

BMW Spain has reached an agreement with Antonio García to take part in the next season of the FIA European Touring Car Championship, within the Ravaglia Motorsports team, which is facing the new season with the highest expectations. This agreement came about after a fantastic test session in Italy, when Antonio García was at all times the best of the invited drivers. Despite not being used to the car, his times were close to those set by Dirk Müller, official driver for BMW Team Germany, the only team able to face up to the official Alfa cars.

" I am happy with the agreement I have signed, because it will allow me to have the best material possible to compete in the Championship. The team set-up was one of the most important factors in taking the decision, because I will be alongside one of the most important drivers in the Championship, from whom I will be able to learn, and who will be a reference point, which should allow me to surpass myself each time I take to the track.

As not all the definitive calendars have been published yet, I do not know whether I will be able to continue to race in single-seaters, but for the first time in my life, they will not be my main objective. I am a professional driver and I owe it to BMW. Just as in previous years I alternated between GTs and single-seaters in order to accelerate my formation as a driver, this year my priorities must be different.

In Spain, through single-seaters, I was not able to find a way towards Formula One. In 2000, I was in discussions with Prost but I was not able to find a way to gather together the ridiculous amount of money that was necessary for such a seat. In 2001, although I could have found a team for less money, it was still impossible to find a sponsor. At the age of 22, I have always had to fight, I have always been on a knife-edge, and although I have never had to bring money in order to race for major teams, I have never had the peace of mind in order to be able to concentrate only on my racing.

This agreement with BMW signals the definitive start of my career as a professional driver, and through the main door ! Formula One is still out there, and I have not given up my dreams – my youth is on my side. "
