Dos sextos puestos son un buen resultado en un campeonato tan competido como éste, aunque bien es cierto que méritos se han hecho para estar a las puertas o en el podium en ambas carreras.
En los primeros entrenamientos cronometrados Antonio García se situaba en tercera posición, a poco mas de una décima del primer clasificado, Justin Wilson. Wilson, que dudando en la arrancada hacía que Antonio no pudiera contener en la arrancada a Ricardo Zonta. Pero fué Ravier en una envestida en la siguiente curva quien provocó que quedara relegado a la sexta plaza, entre Montagny y Leinders.
Tras varios ataques a Montagny, Antonio no consiguió superarlo y tuvo que dar por buena esa sexta plaza rodando, eso sí, entre los grandes animadores del campeonato.
"El coche en los entrenamientos iba perfecto y he estado a punto de conseguir la pole positión. Hubiera sido doblemente bueno pues, como ya me ocurriera en Magny-Cours, salir detrás de Wilson, no me va bien. No pude progresar convenientemente y esto hizo que Zonta me tomara el interior pasando cuarto en la primera curva.
No puedo creer que Ravier se tirase de esta forma, buscando el contacto, el caso es que desplazó lo justo para que Montagny se me adelantara también. Luego he intentado superarlo sin cesar, pero no ha cometido ningún error y me he pasado toda la carrera perdiendo terreno en cada intento para recuperarlo a continuación.
Creo que hubiera podido rodar sin problemas con el grupo de cabeza, pero en este circuito es muy complicado recuperar posiciones, y mas sin quien tienes delante está mas pendiente de tí que de alcanzar al de delante."
Para la segunda carrera, tan sólo se había conseguido alcanzar la séptima posición en la parrilla, los cambios efectuados en el coche, no respondieron como estaba previsto y además el tráfico en pista le hizo perder las vueltas idóneas de las ruedas.
En carrera, se situó sexto y tras el pit stop perdió una posición que posteriormente volvería a recuperar, siendo en las últimas vueltas el piloto que estaba realizando los mejores tiempos, reduciendo la diferencia con la cabeza y llegando a la espalda del quinto clasificado.
"No ha tenido mucha historia esta segunda carrera porque en esta ocasión el pit stop no ha sido decisivo ni a favor ni en contra. Nuestra táctica era esperar acontecimientos, es decir, que si nos veíamos frenados pues entrábamos en las primeras vueltas, en caso contrario lo haríamos en las últimas.
No ha habido cambios sustanciales pues dejé a Wilson delante mío y salí muy cerca de él. Bueno se me intercaló Vilariño, pero se salió de pista y me dejó en la posición inicial. El coche mejoraba bastane a medida que se vaciaban los depósitos, y eso me permitió alcanzar al Wilson, pero ya sin tiempo de atacar.
Ahora nos toca preparar bien Valencia e intentar despedir el campeonato de tierras españolas con la victoria que creo que ya estamos en condiciones de conseguir.s"

Two sixth places can be considered a good result in such a competitive championship as this one, although it is obvious that Antonio tried hard to be close to, or on, the podium in both races.
In the first qualifying session, Antonio was third, just over a tenth of a second behind the first-placed Justin Wilson. Wilson’s hesitation at the start meant that Antonio could not contain Zonta, but it was Ravier, going wide at the next corner, who relegated Antonio to sixth place, between Montagny and Leinders.
Despite a number of attacks on Montagny, Antonio was not able to overtake him, and remained in sixth place, finishing between two of the main Championship contenders.
"The car was perfect in qualifying, and at one point I looked like claiming pole position. This would have been doubly good, as just like in Magny-Cours, starting just behind Wilson does not do me any good. I was not able to start properly and this meant that Zonta took me on the inside, so that I was fourth after the first corner.
I can’t believe that Ravier was deliberately looking for contact, but I had to move just enough so that Montagny got ahead of me as well. I tried to overtake him throughout, but he did not make a single error and I spent the whole race losing ground at each attempt and then trying to regain it.
I think I could have run in the leading group without problems, but on this circuit it is very difficult to make up places."
For the second race, Antonio was only able to qualify seventh on the grid, after changes made to the car did not respond as expected, and moreover with traffic problems spoiling the laps when his tyres were at their best.
In the race, he was running sixth, losing a place during the pit-stop that he ultimately managed to recover. He was the fastest driver on the track in the final laps of the race, closing on the leaders and catching up with the fifth-placed driver.
"There is not much to say about this second race, because this time the pit stop was not decisive, either in our favour or against us. Our tactic was to hope for incidents, that is to say, if there were a number of breakdowns, we would pit early, and if not, we would leave the stop as late as possible.
There were no substantial changes, as I left Wilson ahead of me, and was very close to him. Well, Vilariño was between us, but he went off the track and left me in sixth. The car continued to improve throughout the race, and this allowed me to close on Wilson, but without time to attack.
Now we have to prepare well for Valencia, and I intend
to leave the Spanish part of the Championship with the victory that I am sure
we are capable of claiming."
