La cita de Pegusa se presentaba con todos los condicionantes para obtener un buen resultado y, ¿porque no?, conseguir la victoria. Para ello tan sólo se tenía que contar con un poco de fortuna y esperar tan sólo estar adelante, no cometier errores y estar favorecido por algún problema en el equipo de Ortelli que es claramente el que ha puesto todos lo medios para conseguir el campeonato.
Pero la suerte fue adversa y todo elgran trabajo realizado en el fin de semana se fundió en una inesperada parada en boxes que, unida a la posterior aparición de Satety Car hizo perder dos vueltas al equipo.
De todas formas la acutación ha vuelto a ser fantástica y se ha saldado con la consecución de la Pole Positión en la parrilla de salida y un relevo de Antonio excepecional que, aún llevando dos vueltas de desventaja, se permitió el lujo de rodar codo con condo durante una hora con Ortelli, demostrando que, de no ser por esa parada, la lucha por la victoria hubiera sido muy interesante.
"Esto bastante desilusionado con lo que ha ocurrido en esta carrera, principalmente porque hemos desaprovechado una oprtunidad de victoria. Repitiendo equipo ya habíamos hecho segundos este año por lo que o nos planteamos subir al podium sino que nos planteamos ganar.
Una entrada en boxes sin advertir al equipo en la que ni los mecánicos estaban listos, ni yo preparado para relevar a mi compañero y con el jefe de equipo conversando con el director de carrera, hizo que se perdiese una vuelta y media sin hacer nada, ni repostar, ni cambiar ruedas ni piloto. De repente habíamos perdido todas las opciones y solo quedaba intentar entrar en los puntos.
La satisfación viene de la Pole obtenida, del gran trabajo de puesta a punto realizado, y de haber forzado coincidir gran parte de la carrera con Ortelli para ver como podía haber sido la lucha por la victoria.
Ahora queda una nueva oportunidad, en Donington, circuito que conozco y que me agrada, para conseguir una victoria que no entraba en mis previsiones, cuando me incorporé al campeonato, pero que al tenerla tan cerca me ha lelgado a obsesionar"

Everything seemed to be in place at Pergusa to hope for a good result and even
– why not ? - to aim for a win. To make the top step of the podium, Antonio
only had to count on a little bit of luck, to be at the front, not to make any
mistakes, not to have any problems with the car and to hope for some problems
in Ortelli’s team, as clearly he is the driver who is in the best position
to win the Championship.
However, luck was not on Antonio’s side, and all the excellent work done
throughout the weekend was ruined by an unexpected pit stop, which, linked to
the appearance of the safety car shortly afterwards, meant that the team lost
two laps.
The rest of the weekend was fantastic, claiming Pole Position on the starting
grid, and an exceptional final stint from Antonio, which, despite being two
laps down, allowed him to fight nose to tail with Ortelli for over an hour,
proving that without the unscheduled stop, the fight for the win would have
been extremely interesting.
"I am rather disillusioned with what happened in this race, mainly because
we failed to take advantage of a chance to win. This line-up has already finished
second this year, and therefore we expected to finish on the podium or even
to win.
Making an unscheduled pit-stop, when neither the mechanics nor I were ready
to receive the car, and while the team-manager was talking to the race director,
meant that we spent a whole lap without anything being done on the car –
refuelling, changing the tyres or the driver. We lost all hopes of victory and
our only option was to try and get into the points.
The great satisfaction comes from claiming pole position, as well as the excellent
set-up work we did, and to have spent much of the race running with Ortelli,
which gave me an opportunity to see how close the fight for the victory could
have been.
Now there is another hope for victory, at Donington, a circuit I know and like.
When I joined the Championship I was not expecting to win, but having come so
close, it is beginning to become an obsession …”
